In a previous post title Replacing Honda CRV key<\/a>, I wrote about what to do when replacing a broken Honda shell for the CRV. Guess what? After almost 2 Years, the key shell broke again! Yes I was frustrated and I guess it was partly my fault for having quite a few keys attached to the Honda CRV key. I also believe the Honda Key bends when I put it in my pockets and sit down. The strange thing is my wife’s key had the same problem and was about to break. She ended up getting it replaced and spent $90.00 (this included the shell and cutting the key) – she obviously doesn’t read my blog! I could have saved her (me) $60.00. \u00a0I was not impressed but you know the saying HAPPY WIFE = HAPPY LIFE so I didn’t want to make a fuss out of it.<\/p>\n

Now, I’m the type of person that like to avoid these issues, so this time I decided to think outside the square and look for an alternative\u00a0key shell. After some researching I found a Honda CRV flip key shell. This meant that the key would not stick out, this\u00a0would prevent it from getting bent and then potentially breaking the shell again. The flip shell costed $7.29 from eBay and it took about 3-4 weeks to arrive. Whilst I was waiting for the new shell, I ended up just using duct tape to hold the shell together and to be honest it was not the best looking setup but it worked.<\/p>\n

Anyways, when I received the key I took it to Mister Mint and got it cut. Once again they mentioned to me there were no guarantees the key will work. I had no choice but to just go with it and paid the $35.50. The silly thing I forgot to do before getting it cut was to test to see whether the Electronic Module would fit. When I tried putting it in after the key being cut, my heart sank when it the Electronic Module didn’t fit. After analysing the inside of the Flip Key Shell, I noticed there was some of the plastic that was sticking out, which meant it was probably for a different model of the CRV… argg damn eBay seller! I decided to cut the bit that was sticking out by using a side cutter and after a bit of fiddling around I managed to fit the Electronic Module. This was the end result.<\/p>\n
