The Golden Website

What is the Golden Website?
The Golden Website is actually my made up term that refers to a website that is ranked not only on the first page of the Google search results for certain popular search terms but it is ranked first – just below the sponsored Google ads.
For quite a number of SEO enthusiasts a.k.a experts, their aim or job is to achieve the Golden website ie. have the website ranked first in Google search results. This SEO term has been around for ages (actually since the Internet and search engines popped up) and is a term that web techies live and breathe. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and basically the goal it to find ways to optimise your website so that it ranks better than other websites and in turn rank on the first page of search engines.
Why is this important?
As we all know and research has shown that visitors who are searching on Google do not go past the first page of the search results. Therefore, if your website is on the first page (or even better ranked first – yes the Golden Website) then visitors are more likely to click on your website. Traffic to your website is definitely a good thing. Actually it’s what website owners dream and pay the big bucks to SEO experts.
You see, the more traffic to your website the more potential for sales and revenue. The more money the website generates the happier the website owner. It’s a simple formula… but it’s very hard to achieve. That’s why I call it the Golden Website.
If you do achieve the inevitable and manage to acquire, or obtain the Golden Website, you can take advantage of the traffic by creating child websites i.e websites that are linked from your Golden website. In doing so, your child website will hopefully receive more traffic and in turn make more money for you.
Now talking from past experience, we had a Golden website for a very popular search term. It was quite amazing to see the number of leads we generated just by being on the first page of Google. But once we lost this ranking, we ended up not generating as many leads which equated to not generating as many clients or revenue. It also affected the traffic on the child websites too.
So the lesson that I learnt is “Don’t play around with the Golden Website” because when you do, you’ll turn your Gold into dust.
