Bufallo LS-QVL Flashing Red 6 times

March 2, 2013   /   by Marco  / Categories :  Hardware, Technology

This was the fourth Bufallo NAS Server 4 Bays (LS-QVL/E-AP) that I’ve purchased and I can’t believe how much time I spent trying to fix an issue which ended up being classified as DOA (Dead on Arrival). The problem was that as soon as I inserted two brand new 3TB Western Digital (Model WD30EZRX) the unit would flash red 6 times. After pressing the function button the unit would just sit there flashing blue… I even left it running for a few days (that was silly of me thinking that it was going to fix the problem) and it kept flashing. I even tried going to EM and performing a restore and that didn’t work too. After contacting Bufallo support I was told that there could be a problem with the unit ie enclosure and to go through the RA process to have it replaced. I was a bit disappointed but the lesson learnt here is sometimes you need to put a timeframe of how long you think you should spend trying to fix a problem and if you can’t fix it in that given amount of time, call the experts. I seem to have a habit of not giving up.
