How I doubled website traffic and increased SEO rankings
June 4, 2014 / by Marco / Categories : Business, SEO

This is a continuation of a post I wrote last year called SEO tips and tricks proven to work. I decided to spend some time to look at a company’s website which use to ranked very high in Google (1st Page) and had lots of traffic but over the past year it dramatically dropped. I believe due to a recent change of Webmaster and the lack or no SEO strategy for the website this dramatically affected the rankings – or it could be just the Google Algorithm. The website was created using WordPress and has a theme purchased from Themeforest.
After analysing the website I made the following changes which actually doubled the visitor traffic and also increased SEO ranking for popular keywords related to the company’s industry:
WHAT I DID TO DOUBLE WEBSITE TRAFFIC AND INCREASE SEO RANKINGS
Site Title
– Avoid duplicate words in the site title. This particular site had the same word duplicated which makes it look too spammy.
– Include the search keywords you’re focusing in the site title
– Don’t make the title too long. Google will cut it off at around 62 characters.
SEO Plugin
The website was using All In One. I decided to switch to Yoast SEO. I did not use the XML Sitemap feature from this plugin so it was disabled.
After installing Yoast, I decided to go through each post and page and update the SEO meta tags. This process took almost a day but it was worth it. I made sure the SEO status for each post was green or yellow.
PLUGIN UPDATES
Updated each plugin to make sure it was the latest – I don’t think this makes a difference to SEO but just thought I’d mention it here.
So those were the main changes applied to the website and after a week I was able to see some results.
NOTE: I’ve said this a few times on this blog that I’m not a SEO expert. I just apply changes and monitor the results. It may or may not work for you.
