How to root the Samsung Galaxy S2

August 31, 2011   /   by Marco  / Categories :  Business

I have recently changed my HTC Desire HD to the Samsung Galaxy S2 after several complaints to my carrier.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a great phone… much better than the Desire HD – most importantly it support the new Vodafone 850Mhz frequency.

Last night I decided to take the plunge and root my phone. Having done this to the HTC Desire HD I thought the process was going to be the same. But that wasn’t the case.

There are a few tricks I’ve learnt so I thought I’d better document it somewhere.
So there are several ways to root the phone. You can find most of them on the Internet so I decided to just document what I experienced and what I needed to get my phone rooted.
I followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

The only trick is that you definately have to use Super One Click1.9.1 – it must be version 1.9.1
The lastest version didn’t work for me – it would just hang on step no 6 and wouldn’t go any further.

The other thing to do, is if you want ClockworkMod installed, don’t download the lastest version otherwise you will end up getting issues with Signatures. To overcome this, just use the flash GT-I9100 ClockworkMod Recovery version 4.0.0.2..
Whatever you do use this and backup you phone before upgrading or changing to another ROM. At one stage I thought I bricked my phone cause I couldn’t pass the Samsung S2 Screen and I was lucky I backed up my phone before performing the ROM upgrade – I had the issue after trying to change the ROM to CM7.

Well good luck and have fun with the phone.

Also remember, that to get to the recovery menu press POWER – DOWN and HOME buttons when the phone is switched off. Pressing POWER – UP and HOME get’s you into the ClockworkMod recovery.
