Setting up your free IPTV with TPG and TP-Link Router
January 9, 2013 / by Marco / Categories : Free, Technology
I tested this a while ago and thought I’d add this link in my blog post in case I forget. TPG offers free IPTV (ability to watch online TV channels from your computer). What you need to do is configure your router to use the IGMP protocol and have your router configured to use QoS (Quality of Service). You basically watch the channels via a browser.
Here’s the link to the full instructions on how to setup my TP-Link router for TPG IPTV streaming: http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=249
Some of the things I noticed:
- TPG seems to use VLC for streaming the video
- I did notice that after enabling IGMP and QoS, my connection to the Internet seemed slower
- You need to subscribe and pay to watch the free to air channels – why? I don’t know but I was very disappointed.
