Are .mobi domains obsolete?

March 20, 2011   /   by Marco  / Categories :  Technology

Several years ago there was a hype to purchase and register .mobi domains. These are internet domains that end with .mobi and are primarily used for viewing websites (optimised) on the mobile phones. With the introduction of smartphone the website pages are rendered for the phone so my question is whether these .mobi domains are obsolete. Are websites still using this? When I performed a search on google there is currently 119,000,000 results. When I clicked on some of the results the .mobi websites just appear to be normal standard websites. For SEO purposes using these domains with keywords relating to your industry are very advantageous and great for search engines.

So my question to you is whether people still care whether .mobi domains are used for mobile phones?
