Things to remember when changing from All In One WordPress plugin to Yoast

Yoast Wordpress SEO - General Settings

I’ve been using WordPress for years now and have been using two plugins for SEO – All In One WordPress and Yoast. A few weeks ago I decided to replace All In One WordPress with Yoast for several of my website. I decided to write down some important notes:

1. Sitemaps

Yoast has a built in sitemaps function so you will have to remember to disable any other plugins. If you use the Google Sitemaps plugin then delete the sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.zip files as yoast uses sitemap_index.xml – a dynamic XML file.

Yoast creates child feeds for the different types e.g pages, posts, tags etc rather than having one large xml file. This helps with sites that have many posts or products.

2. Ping – For Yoast don’t forget to select ping Yahoo and Ask in the XML sitemap settings

3. Add Webmaster Tools – this includes Google and Bing

4. Yoast uses the Title of your WordPress site. Make sure this is correct

5. Yoast has the Social features to add Facebook app, Twitter or Google+

6. If you’re looking at migrating the settings from other plugins then there is an Import & Export SEO feature

If there’s any other features or settings I should be aware of then please let me know.
