A few years ago I compared several Accounting Software packages, Xero, MYOB, Saasu, Quickbooks. I won’t include it here because some of the information is out of date and it is constantly changing. There are so many other sites that provide a comprehensive comparison so I just wanted to let my readers know which one I ended up using. After reviewing all the different features and most of all pricings (something a small business can afford) I went with Saasu because of the simplicity and the feature to generate the BAS reporting. In summary the features that I liked are:
1. Ability to email Invoices and generate simple templates
2. Reconcile your transactions with Banks and even Paypal
3. Ability to create an inventory of your products. The only bad thing here is that when creating an invoice you cannot add an inventory item and also a service line. Maybe this has changed.
4. Change roles and responsibilities – my accountant has an account and they can only view what they need.
5. Their support is great and quick
6. Price – their monthly pricing is affordable and reasonable. I believe if you sign up for a whole year then you get 1 month free. Don’t quote me on this.
7. Multi currency – great for those who receive payment or issue invoices in different currencies
One of the downsides is having a mobile app for the android. There were a lot of people requesting for this but I don’t think it ever got built. There is an Apple app but I don’t have an iPhone.
Yes, I did try Xero and a lot of friends have recommended this software package but the pricing model wasn’t attractive so I gave that a miss. It does have lots of good features but their starter pack only has 20 bank transaction per month vs 200 wih Saasu. It also has 5 invoices per month vs unlimites with Saasu. So my decision as to which product to go with was quite simple. For some of the other packages like MYOB they were quite confusing to use (would have had to do lots of reading) and it was more expensive and there seem to be add on costs for additional features.
Let me know if you’re using anything different.
