Google Webmaster URL has email address

Google Webmaster Tools Crawl Errors

I recently was going through Google Webmaster tools and discovered 19000 Not Found errors being reported in the Crawl Erros page.  This was huge. Upon reviewing the errors I noticed that each URL had the email address appended to it. This was weird. I was pretty sure that the URL in the sitemaps didn’t have this.

After reviewing each domain, there was definitely NO email address appended, but looking closer to the source code of each page I noticed that there was the email address included in the Social Media icons. Upon further investigation the email link when I hovered the mouse over it had the full URL and the email appended to it. The problem was that I needed to add the syntax: mailto:xxx@xxx.com rather than just xxx@xxx.com

This seemed to have fixed the problem but not sure how this affected the website SEO.
